Based on the amount of emails USA Hockey, Bill Corbo and I are getting from individual coaches, it would appear information is not being disseminated throughout the organizations.
This is a reminder that according to CHC (Connecticut Hockey Conference), and the New England District, coaches are only allowed to take two clinics in any one season. This is not a new rule this year. It has been in place for a while. Both coaches and organizations appear surprised when they here this.
Organizations/coaches have two options:
1. Petition for Coaching Waiver: This is a permanent request. This is for coaches who have not just "Played Hockey at a High Level (D-1)" or not "Average parents" who want to coach. This is a Coaching Waiver. They look at your coaching background, not necessarily where you played. This permanently awards the petitioning coach a certain level. Any level under a level 4, (Level 1-3) needs to be renewed every three years. Level 4 does not need to be renewed.
2. Temporary Coaching Card Application: This is as it would imply, at TEMPORARY card that will allow a coach to remain on the bench for the duration of the season if he/she is not able to attain the required levels in one season. This is a once in a USA Hockey Lifetime issue. Once a coach receives this card, he/she will not be issued another one down the road. It is for one season. The coach is then required to accomplish the required clinics the following season. Temporary Coaching Card applications need to go to Bill Corbo, New England Coach In Chief BEFORE they are sent to USA Hockey.
Please try your best to get this information to your Coaching Directors/Coordinators. If your Coaching Directors/Coordinators have any questions, please advise them to contact me. Coaches and organizations do not need to go directly to Bill Corbo and USA Hockey.
I deal for the most part, specifically with Connecticut. Bill has to deal with the entire New England District and other venues. USA Hockey deals with every coaching issue in the continental U.S. and then some. I will be able to get you an answer quicker and hopefully alleviate some if not all of the frustration.
Thank you
