Now that school is over and summer has officially started, it's a great time to pause and reflect on the 2018-2019 season. We were busy! With over 270 players enrolled in 11 travel teams and two Learn to Play Clinics, we continued our mark as the largest girls hockey organization in Southern Connecticut. We love hearing the shared season stories from coaches, players, and parents about growth, development, friendship, and fun. Our passion and purpose are giving our participants a high-quality hockey experience that advances our girls as athletes and people.
Another way we like to benchmark development is through the state tournaments. Our focus is not on the scoreboard, but on looking for advancement at the player and team level. Did a player demonstrate better positioning and hockey IQ? Were the games played more competitively than those earlier in the season? Did the girls play as a team? Has hockey helped the player off the ice with time management, confidence or overall athleticism?
With that said, we like to celebrate our successes! Some noteworthy team milestones include: qualifying for New England Tier II Regionals (U14 Black and U19 Black), finishing as U14 Tier II runner-up (14-Black), taking first place in league play (U16 Black/CHC), and winning first place state tournament play (U10 Black/CGHL).
Additionally, a shout-out to the eight players who made all-state teams (SCC/FCIAC), participated in the New England District Select Weekend and were asked to participate in the CGHL Biscuit in the Basket Showcase.
Other achievements include eight Sharks committing to top boarding schools to play hockey, record-breaking participation in our Learn to Play Clinics and co-hosting our first annual Try Goalie for a Day event with the team from Pro-Crease Goaltending!
As we near the start of the 2019-2020 season, look for more information on our new Saturday House League, featuring cross-ice gameplay that delivers the high ratio of puck touches and opportunities to drive player development.
We've started our countdown to the start for the 2019-2020 season and can't wait to get back on the ice!! Until then, enjoy the summer!
