With the unexpected gift of time we've been given from the coronavirus, let's use it productively. Starting TODAY (March 24), we are launching the Shoreline Sharks Quarantine Puck Challenge.
We invite our U8 - U19 players (including our Junior Sharks) to log shots from now through May 31. The player with the most shots wins a customized Sharks hockey bag with their name, and number and the next four top shooters will receive Shoreline Sharks t-shirts!
How it Works
This contest is easy to execute, requiring very little equipment: a stick, pucks, and something to shoot at (hockey net, tarp, plywood, etc.), virtually anything but the garage door!
Each participant needs to register for the challenge to officially log the number of shots they take by the day by clicking on the link below. If a player has participated in the challenge before, log in, and they will be added to the team automatically. If its the first time, players need to create a HookeyShare account.
Rules
Here are some guidelines for the contest:
Shot maximum. No more than 250 shots on a single day, as anything over that number provides a diminishing return
Proper form is critical. Do not rush… focus on quality shots with good weight transfer. Check out this video from HockeyShare or send Coach Ed videos for pointers on form.
Work on all types of shots: wrist shots, snap shots, slap shots and backhand. The most important shot is a quick release snap shot.
Setup targets. A shooter tutor is great, but simple pie plates or other targets that can be placed in the corners so the kids can develop their accuracy. Sturdy paper plates and zip ties work or here's some fun ideas from Coach Jeremy for puck targets... like water balloons!
Winners will be announced on June 1.
Let's Have Fun
We will post a weekly "leaderboard" to showcase results! Additionally, share pictures or videos of our players doing for the challenge (or anything else in terms of development, conditioning, etc.). Send images and/or videos to Pam Miller, and we will share!
You will be amazed at how fast the girls develop their shooting and puck handling skills by practicing regularly. And more importantly, we hope this contest adds some focus and fun during these uncertain times.
Stay healthy and safe!
