OCTOBER 16 - MARCH 6
Learning to play AND love hockey is the focus of the 28-session Sand Sharks Clinic (20 Sunday sessions with an additional 8 Saturday sessions starting in January).
Using age and skill-appropriate drills, our coaches work with participants to feel comfortable on the ice, learn hockey fundamentals, and, most importantly, have fun, so they want to come back each week.
We continue to utilize a formalized level system in our weekly clinic to group players by their ability to accelerate development. Once participants demonstrate readiness and competency, they will advance to the next level. Aside from keeping players engaged and growing, levels allow coaches to tailor the cadence and challenge of the drills to match the ability.
To complement our 20-week skills sessions and give participants more ice time, we add eight Saturday Game Days starting in January. Sand Sharks will play cross-ice games to practice the skills they are learning in the clinic portion. The participants will literally learn through play while having a ton of fun!
Games and engaging activities are used to refine the basic motor patterns required to play hockey. As players advance, concepts of cooperation, teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship are introduced.
The first step is to review basic skating techniques, ensuring the skaters are comfortable and confident. Hockey basics are introduced, including stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges, and backward skating. Pucks and sticks are added along with small area games as the girls advance through the program. Our new Game Days allow Sand Sharks to practice what they've learned in cross-ice scrimmages.
The clinic ends with a "field day" on the ice at which participants have fun while demonstrating their hockey and celebrate with a pizza party!
Basic skating experience is required for those to participate in the Learn to Play (LTP) section of the clinic. Ideally, players should be able to skate unassisted and get up after falling.
For those without skating experience, a portion of the clinic ice is dedicated to our Learn to Skate (LTS) program. The goal is to quickly move LTS participants into the LTP portion of the clinic.

We are committed to creating a positive experience for participants and their families. Our coaches welcome the opportunity to teach your daughter to skate and play, while hopefully fostering a passion for the great game of hockey. Today, a majority of our travel team players started in our development program.
