Tier I & CGHL Program (Non-National Bound)

A Leader in Hockey Development

In 2000, we started our program with a couple of teams to feed a newly created Guilford Girls High School hockey team.  Our hard work, passion, and commitment to grow girl's hockey have paid off as we are the dominant all-girls hockey organization in Southern Connecticut.

In twenty years, our program has expanded to over 200 players coming from all over to participate in 11+ teams at all age brackets (U8 - U19) and multiple competitive levels (D1 & D2) within the Connecticut Girl's Hockey League (CGHL).

For those players looking for a higher level of competition, we offer Tier I/II play at the U12 age bracket and NEGHL (New England Girls Hockey League) participation for select U14+ teams. Although not eligible to compete in the USA Hockey National Championship, these teams will play a more rigorous game schedule against state and regional teams.

Our non-national bound and CGHL programs serve various players, ranging from those looking for a path to national-bound play through our Tier II program to those wanting competitive CT-based hockey to those learning the sport and wanting to be a part of a team.  Regardless of the objective, our coaches are focused on helping players advance to their next level of play in a fun and challenging environment.

Since our launch, we've only focused on girls' hockey and believe we've had a significant role in growing the sport in the state.  We are known for our player development and for delivering a great hockey experience for a range of players.

We use league play to advance player and team development, adding more challenge to the season through a rigorous game schedule.

We have one of the largest and most inclusive hockey programs in the state; here's why we are different:

DEVELOPMENT-CENTRIC
Our purpose is to help our athletes grow and advance as players and people.  Our USA Hockey certified coaches are trained to create age-specific practices designed to be fast-moving and challenging using the systematic approach outlined in the  USA Hockey American Development Model (ADM).  Weekly dedicated skills-only sessions complement team practices and are run in collaboration with IPH Hockey.

Most games are state-based and tied to the CGHL schedule, including an end of the season tournament.  Coaches will look to add non-league games to challenge their teams and players.

Our view of development extends beyond the ice.  Hockey builds many lasting life skills, including teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, respect, confidence, hard work, and integrity.

Why the Sharks?

MULTIPLE COMPETITIVE LEVELS
The CGHL provides players from beginner to experienced the ability to play competitive hockey in a development environment.  We craft our team structures to align with the CGHL, ideally offering multiple levels of play at key age brackets.

ur approach to team structure is dynamic.  Based on tryout numbers and interest,  we make adjustments to find places for girls interested in travel hockey to play.

PLAYER LOYALTY
Our commitment to players is for the long-term and is not season to season. We employ a "Once a Shark, always a Shark" philosophy that promises a spot for athletes to play in the upcoming season.  It gives our players a sense of security and reflects our commitment to shaping their hockey journey, a differentiator between other organizations and us.

MORE THAN JUST HOCKEY
Of course, hockey is our focus, and we strive to ground our players with on-ice success in terms of becoming better hockey players and competitive play.  Our track record demonstrates our success, with many CGHL championship titles along with our Teir II state and national titles.

With that said, our families tell us we deliver more than better hockey players.  Our organization is grounded in a value-system centered around a strong, positive culture.   We work hard to build a community at the team and organization level that supports our families and empowers our players.  Our experience at other hockey clubs will tell you; there is something exceptional about the Shoreline Sharks.
